Press Maintenance

When operating a machine capable of crushing 4000 tons, it makes sense to perform regular preventative maintenance. CMW's experienced engineers, project managers, and press repair technicians are on call 24/7 to meet your preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, and corrective maintenance needs.

To prevent unnecessary press downtime, CMW can schedule on-site regular preventative maintenance. Press preventative maintenance services include troubleshooting potential problem areas, recommending corrective actions, and creating a list of components that may require periodic replacement.

Your press component information is kept on file (drawings, technical information, OEM items, etc.) and each component is assigned a unique Component ID to facilitate quick replacement. CMW can reverse engineer virtually any component components, as well as expediently manufacture new components if failure or scheduled replacement occurs.

24/7 Preventative Maintenance

Our in-house press repair & machining equipment can handle large presses and ram sizes, regardless of manufacturer. We are one of the few press maintenance providers with the equipment in-house capable of handling all your press repair needs. Additional preventative maintenance benefits include:

  • Faster, more cost-effective component rebuilds than OEM replacements
  • Custom engineered components that exceed OEM specifications
  • Can modify or fabricate components to fit existing OEM assemblies
  • Can machine new connecting rods, backshafts, drive shafts, gearing, clutches, brakes, lower connections, upper connections, and counterbalances
  • Hydraulic overload can be added to any press
  • Complete in-house press repair services; minimize expensive vendor outsourcing

The Preventative Maintenance Process

Using the latest in portable calibration and troubleshooting technology, we can quickly measure coordinates, verify crown alignment and parallelism. We will even check press stop-time.

Every press receives a visual inspection for potential areas of wear. We also check belt tension, lubrication systems, sheave alignment, rod scoring, air leaks, and contaminated air and other potential maintenance issues.  All connections are checked for clearances, recorded and submitted for your approval.

The most common culprit for press failure, and the most often overlooked, is the press lubrication system. Over 75% of the press failures we encounter are due to poor lubrication. CMW can educate press operators on proper lube maintenance, and upgrade lubrication systems if required.
