Press Repair and Maintenance

Press Maintenance

When operating a machine capable of crushing 4000 tons, it makes sense to perform regular preventative maintenance. Columbia Machine Works' experienced engineers, project managers, and press repair technicians are on call 24/7 to meet your preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, and corrective maintenance needs.

To prevent unnecessary downtime, we offer scheduled on-site regular preventative press maintenance. Preventative maintenance services include troubleshooting potential problem areas, recommending corrective actions, and creating a list of components that may require periodic replacement.

Your press component information is kept on file (drawings, technical information, OEM items, etc.) at our facility. Each press part is assigned a unique Component ID to facilitate quick replacement. We can reverse engineer virtually any press part, as well as expediently manufacture new press parts if failure or scheduled replacement occurs.

Press Maintenance Capabilities

Our in-house press repair & machining equipment can handle large presses and ram sizes, regardless of manufacturer. We are one of the few press maintenance providers with the in-house capabilities to handle all of your press repair needs. Additional preventative maintenance benefits include:

The Press Maintenance Process

Using the latest in portable press calibration and troubleshooting technology, we can quickly measure coordinates, verify crown alignment and parallelism, and check press stop-time.

Every press receives a visual inspection for potential areas of wear. We also check belt tension, press lubrication systems, sheave alignment, rod scoring, air leaks, and contaminated air and other potential maintenance issues.  All press connections are checked for clearances, recorded and submitted for your approval.

The most common culprit for press failure, and the most often overlooked, is the press lubrication systems. Over 75% of the press failures we encounter are due to poor lubrication. We can educate press operators on proper lube maintenance and upgrade lubrication systems, if required.
