The project highlighted here represents Columbia Machine Works reverse engineering capabilities, as well as precision machining. A metal stamping customer in Tennessee needed a replacement crankshaft for one of their metal stamping machines. The customer specification called out the use of 4140 HT steel, and dimensions of 102″ in length, 12″ in width, 14″ in height and an overall weight of approximately 8,500 lbs.
To machine this large component required the use of a manual and CNC lathe, CNC milling, and polishing to finish the project. These precision processes allowed for tolerances of ±0.001″ to easily be achieved, and for a turnaround of just 5 weeks. Columbia Machine Works understands the importance of maximizing production while maintaining high quality standards, which is why all precision CNC machine services are backed by the QM-1 Quality Assurance Program, and in full compliance with all JIC standards.
